Great Inner West Walk

Project Type: Stakeholder + Community Engagement

Year: 2024–2025

Client: Inner West Council

Reactivate Consulting has been engaged by Inner West Council to lead stakeholder and community engagement for the Great Inner West Walk, a continuous walking route linking neighbourhoods, high streets, parks, and cultural destinations across the Inner West of Sydney. Designed to celebrate the area’s unique local character and improve walkability, the project represents a significant step toward creating a healthier, more connected, and more sustainable urban environment.

Our work involves designing and delivering an engagement program that captures the priorities, aspirations, and lived experiences of local residents, businesses, and community organisations. This includes workshops, site walks, surveys, and targeted conversations to ensure that the Walk reflects the values of the diverse communities it traverses. By gathering insights into accessibility, safety, cultural identity, and opportunities for activation along the route, the engagement process is shaping how the Great Inner West Walk can best serve both local and regional users.

A key focus has been ensuring that the Walk supports the vibrancy of local high streets and integrates seamlessly with the rich cultural and social fabric of the Inner West. Our engagement process has highlighted opportunities for the route to act not only as a transport and recreation corridor but also as a platform for public art, storytelling, and community-led initiatives.

The outcomes of this process will inform Council’s strategy and implementation plan, ensuring the Great Inner West Walk is delivered as an inclusive, engaging, and distinctly local asset that strengthens connections between people, places, and culture across the Inner West.
