We’re proud to have recently spearheaded the arts and cultural stakeholder engagement for the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital redevelopment’s Public Art Masterplan. On behalf of project lead and regular collaborators, Cultural Capital we convened workshops with executives, prospective cultural partners from across Sydney’s creative industries and intra-government agencies, as well as targeted interviews with industry stakeholders. Our engagement outcomes report has informed the development of RPA’s Public Art Masterplan.
The $750 million RPA Hospital redevelopment will transform one of NSW busiest and most important hospitals. Located in the heart of Sydney’s Camperdown health, education, and research precinct, the upgraded facility will deliver state-of-the-art clinical services, research and education facilities, with a strong emphasis on patient experience, and improved public realm connections with the University of Sydney and the broader community. With over 150 years of continuous service, the redevelopment will also respect and reimagine RPA’s heritage and significance for future generations.
The project’s public art masterplan will is informed by the Health Infrastructure NSW’s Arts in Health Strategy which plays a key role in bringing creativity and cultural inclusion into the physical and social fabric of healthcare in NSW. Guided by this strategy, the RPA redevelopment will embed art throughout both its new public and clinical spaces, humanising healthcare experience and enhancing the identity of the hospital as a place of care, connection and creativity, whilst also reflecting the cultural diversity of the local community. It proposes a layered approach — from large-scale commissioned public artworks and integrated architectural features to curated exhibitions, rotating installations, and community-led creative projects.
We can’t wait to see it come to life!
