Australian Placemaking Summit 2025: Building Great 24 Hour Precincts

Next week, our director and cofounder Andrew Coward will be hosting a panel on ‘Placemaking as a Foundation for the 24-hour Economy’ at the Australian Placemaking Summit in Melbourne.

Melbourne is home to some absolutely incredible nighttime precincts and places like Gertrude Street Fitzroy, Chapel Street, Smith Street Collingwood and Greville St Prahran, some of which have been named the coolest streets in the world! And of course, a thriving nighttime economy in within the boundaries of its CBD.

We’ll be looking at different styles of precinct governance and operations, what it takes to create and sustain great 24 hour precincts, as well as the success of the NSW government’s Uptown District Accelerator Program, that we’ve been lucky to be deeply involved in since day one.

Georgie Birch, from City of Stonnington who’ll be talking about Chapel Street
Peter Kaylor, Community Lead at People of Gertrude Street in the wonderfully vibrant heart of Fitzroy
Dr Anna Edwards, Founder of Ingenium Research and a world leader in nighttime economy, policy and urban governance structures

And, no doubt there’ll be some healthy rivalry as to which city does it better; Sydney and Melbourne!🥊🌆
