Randwick Creative Night

Project Type: Creative Activation, Community Engagement, Place Visioning

Year: 2025

Client: Randwick City Council

Randwick Creative Night was developed as part of a broader initiative by Randwick City Council to explore creative and cultural strategies for Randwick Junction. Reactivate Consulting was engaged to design and deliver a one-off night-time activation that could test new ways of using public space, build creative community partnerships, and begin shifting perceptions of the town centre after dark.

The result was a multi-sensory, highly localised activation that brought together local artists, musicians, and cultural organisations to reimagine Randwick Junction as a shared creative space — if only for one evening. The program included projection-based storytelling on building façades, live music and performance installations, interactive art stations for children and families, and temporary lighting and furniture to reshape the spatial experience of the street. All elements were deliberately low-barrier, accessible, and reflective of the community’s diverse cultural voice.

The event was structured not only as a celebration, but as a testbed — a way to observe how creative infrastructure might function in the public realm, what types of programming resonate with local audiences, and how the night-time economy might be supported through creative practice. Dozens of local creatives were engaged in the process, and businesses were invited to stay open late and participate in the energy of the evening.

Randwick Creative Night successfully demonstrated how a single, well-designed activation can act as a catalyst for future visioning. It generated clear demand for more cultural activity in the precinct, inspired confidence in night-time use of public space, and has helped shape ongoing conversations about how creativity can be embedded into the area’s long-term strategy.
